Statement on England Korfball Finals 2020

Over the last few weeks the England Korfball Board and Grand Finals organising committee have been closely monitoring the developments regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The health and safety of our players, fans, spectators and everyone working at the event is our highest priority.

Due to concerns around COVID-19 we have regrettably made the difficult decision to cancel the England Korfball Grand Finals 2020 event which was due to take place on 2nd and 3rd May 2020 at the Copper Box Arena in London.

Our major concern is that as the situation progresses in the UK, people will be reluctant to join thousands of spectators to watch the Grand Finals. Without spectators, the event becomes unviable and players and volunteers may also be affected. We know that many businesses and organisations are already making similar contingency plans.

As the National Governing Body, we need to limit our financial exposure and by taking this difficult decision early we can minimise the financial impact of postponing the event, and give ourselves the best chance of making alternative arrangements.

We will continue to monitor and assess what is a complex and fast-moving situation. Announcements regarding the culmination of the season and the National Schools Championship will be made in due course.
