Inter-Area Seniors

The South West Korfball Association, led by their chair Kevin Allen hosted the England Korfball 2015 Senior Inter-Area on Sunday 22nd February in Bristol.

The teams participating consisted of 9 area associations together with BSKA as British Students and the National Teams of Wales and Scotland.

Once again, the event was strongly supported by the Referees Sub Committee with lead assessor Peter Allan in attendance to assess the four England Korfball appointed referees and to organize the appointments for the whole competition.

Sam Wells and Sally More of the Competitions Sub-Committee co-ordinated the competition and were in attendance and throughout the event, organising the shot-clock and juries for both pitches.

As a result of the volunteers from the Areas, Sam, Sally and Lol More were able to provide assistance with training in both these vital areas.

The competition was split into two pools with positional playoffs at the end of the day.  This very strong field of entrants was reflected in the many close and exciting matches throughout the day.

The playoffs were all very exciting and keenly contested, with two of the playoff matches being decided on penalties between Norfolk and Kent for 5th and 6th respectively and North West and South Midlands for 11th and 12th respectively.

The winners of the Competition were British Students with London as the runners up.

Final positions were:

  1. British Students
  2. London
  3. East Midlands
  4. Wales
  5. Norfolk
  6. Kent
  7. Oxford
  8. West Midlands
  9. Scotland
  10. South West
  11. North West
  12. South Midlands

Presenting the Medals at the end of the event, Sam Wells England Korfball Competitions Coordinator thanked SWKA for their extremely good organization, the Area Associations for their help and co-operation in making the event a success, the coaches and managers, shot-clock operators and jury members and the referees who gave up their time to make the tournament work.

An excellent day of korfball in Bristol and we look forward to next year’s event.

Frank Sieber, England Korfball.
