IKF Europa Shield 2014

On Friday 24, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January 2014 eight teams from across Europe will compete in the International Korfball Federation’s (IKF) Europa Shield tournament in Vilanova y la Geltru, Catalonia.

 

Kingfisher Korfball Club will represent England in the competition after finishing in 2nd place in the 2012/13 Korfball League.

 

The eight participants from six countries are:  Clube Carnaxide Cultura e Desporto (POR), Club Esportiu Vilanova y la Geltru (CAT), Club Korfball VALLPARADIS (CAT), Kingfisher Korfball Club (ENG), Korfball klub Brno (CZE), KV Adler Rauxel e.V. (GER), Schweriner Korfball Club e.V. ’67 (GER) and Szentendrei Korfball Klub (SVK).

 

Kingfisher have been drawn in pool A with Carnaxide Cultura e Desporto from Portugal, Adler Rauxel from Germany and last year’s winners of the Europa Shield; Vallparadis from Catalonia.

 

Kingfisher have secured the services Ross Carr-Taylor on a short-term contract as coach for the Europa Shield. Carr-Taylor was at the helm last season, leading Kingfisher to their highest league placing in the club’s history.

 

Kingfisher will play once on Friday, twice on Saturday and potentially twice on Sunday.

 

Adler Rauxel (GER) are Kingfisher’s first opponents in the tournaments second game on Friday 24 January, the match starts at 17:35 GMT.

 

Kingfisher’s then play Clube Carnaxide Cultura e Desporto (09:50 GMT) and Vallparadis (17:15 GMT) on Saturday.

 

The final of the Europa Shield starts at 13:20 GMT on Sunday 26 January 2014. Follow the matches in real time on the IKF’s worldkorfball.org website.
