IKF cancels all International competition for 2020

In an extraordinary meeting of the IKF Executive Committee on 4 April 2020 the International Korfball Federation has decided to largely cancel or postpone all international competitions.

The U21 World Korfball Championship (Taipei, Taiwan), Asian Korfball Championship (Seoul, Korea), European Korfball Championship/A (Antwerp, Belgium), and European Korfball Championship/B (Wroclaw, Poland) have all been postponed to 2021.

The IKF and the Royal Dutch Korfball Association (KNKV) have also cancelled the U17 Korfball World Cup (Eindhoven, Netherlands), and the U15 European Korfball Championship (Drachten, Netherlands).

Jan Fransoo, President of the International Korfball Federation said in a statement: “The IKF is very sad having to take this decision, which was inevitable. Foremost, the health and well-being of all athletes, officials and fans is our first priority.

“We realize the effective cancellation of the international competitions calendar in 2020 will be a huge disappointment for many, athletes and fans alike.

“However, we hope that the space we have hence created will enable our national federation to restart korfball competitions at a national level.”
