Free training in north and east London with Highbury KC

Korfball is free in north and east London for the rest of the 2014/15 season after Highbury Korfball Club was awarded two grants to run free training sessions.

All of Highbury’s sessions will be free of charge – including Wednesday training in Dalston and Thursdays in Swiss Cottage. In addition Highbury is offering its 1st and 2nd team squad training for free until the end of the season.

The funding will see Highbury running two separate projects, in the London Borough of Hackney (funded by National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund), and in the London Borough of Camden thanks to money from the Greater London Authority.

Highbury, who currently have some 60 active players on their books, hope the funding will spur more people from the local community to take up korfball, as well as encouraging any Londoners who previously played at universities around the country to continue in the capital.

Highbury Korfball Club chair Rich Hayward said: “The funding is a great opportunity to spread korfball across the north and east London.

“I hope people in the boroughs and Hackney and Camden really take advantage of this offer to gain from the fitness and social benefits korfball offers.

“Korfball is a great and inclusive sport, and Highbury is well set up to cater for all players, from top-level performers to those playing up a team sport for the first time.

“I hope that anyone taking advantage of the sessions will continue to play for many years to come.”
