Europa Cup 2015: Trojans 21-20 Schweriner

Trojans have today (16 January) beaten the German national champions, Schweriner KC 21-20 on the third day of the IKF Europa Cup finals in Belgium.

Schweriner raced into an early 1-4 lead forcing Trojans coach Gary Brooks to call a timeout after 10 minutes.

Trojans initially struggled to deal with the fast attacking female players from Schweriner, allowing too many assists in front of the post. Crucially Trojans also missed two penalties in the first half.

Trojans went into the halftime break trailing 8-10.

It wasn’t until the 33rd minute that Trojans levelled the score at 12-12 through Toby Clarke who entered the match as a substitute during the first half.

The two teams continued to trade goals throughout the remainder of the second half. The winning goal was scored in the 49th minute by Neela Brennan from the penalty spot.

Trojans captain David Brooks top scored in the match with six goals.

Trojans will now play Vallparadis from Catalonia for 5th/6th position tomorrow (17 January) Vallparadis won their playoff match 26-10 against Kocaeli University from Turkey.
