England 13-8 Germany

England U23 played their second match of the Under 23 Korfball World Cup today (Saturday 28 December) against Germany.

England Head Coach Dave Buckland selected Ashley Warner, Alex Derham, Claire Dique, Mallory Gore, Ollie Bell, Owen Bailey (Captain), Blake Palfreyman and Dan Brown as the starting team against Germany.

The last time England played Germany at this level it was Germany that won, 17-13 at the World Championships in 2012.

England went into the halftime break ahead (6-3) and managed to extend their lead in the second half, finishing the match as eventual winners 13-8.

Speaking after the match Buckland said: “Good game against Germany. Controlled the game from the start. Dominated in defence. Attack we created so many chances but didn’t finish them.

“Winning by 5 is good but it could easily have been 10 or more. The squad is in good spirits and looking forward to the games tomorrow”

Palfreyman top scored for England with three goals from open play. Tornadoes’ Mallory Gore was top female scorer for England with two goals again from open play.

England’s final two matches at the Korfball Challenge are against Chinese Taipei (09:45 GMT) and Czech Republic (11:45 GMT) on Sunday.
