England to host University World Cup

England Korfball are pleased to confirm that the IKF University World Cup will take place between Wednesday 15 and Saturday 18 April 2015 at the University of East Anglia’s Sportspark arena in Norwich, Norfolk.

Eight teams will compete for the title; China, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Russia and Turkey.

England Korfball will host the tournament in partnership with the British Student Korfball Association and the Norfolk Korfball Association.

For a number of years England Korfball have been working with the IKF to raise the profile of student korfball. The IKF University Korfball World Cup highlights the first step to being included in a wider agenda.

Discussions are underway with FISU, the Governing Body of International University Sport about including Korfball as part of their formal program.

A number of national student sport federations are considering bidding for the inaugural FISU World Korfball Championship in 2018.

For the 2015 University Korfball World Cup the British Student Korfball Association appointed Dave Buckland and Joe Stirling as Great Britain Student Korfball Squad coaches for the 2014/5 season.

A number of trials for the Great Britain student team have already taken place. The selection process will continue at the upcoming England Korfball senior inter-area tournament.
