On the morning of Wednesday 20th January 2010, Trojans made the trip through the channel tunnel and across mainland Europe to compete in this years Europa Cup finals in Herentals, Belgium.
The English Champions were given the unenviable task of facing the Belgian Champions Boeckenberg in their 1st match of the tournament. The Belgians had home field advantage and the match was scheduled live on Belgian TV. With a full house in attendance, the atmosphere was pretty imposing.
Coach Gary Brooks opted for the starting line up of Rob Williams, Tony Woodvine, S-J Hubbard and Emily Brooks in 1st attack whilst down the other end in 1st defence was the section of Chris Spice, Sam Brooks, Loes Versteegh and Lia Matthews.
Two minutes into the match and the Belgians opened the scoring at 1-0 but the scores were quickly leveled thanks to a smart middle distance shot from Woodvine. It wasn’t long before Boeckenberg began to exert their dominance, moving into a 6-1 lead after 11 minutes. Their sharp shooting and decisive movement enabling them to beat the shot clock and maintain possession.
