EKA Strategy 2011
England Korfball has set its sights high with its plans for the future of Korfball in this country. The
executive committee is now in a position to announce its vision for Korfball in England and the first steps
in its strategy for achieving that vision.
VISION:
“Everyone in England to know what Korfball is; millions in England to be involved in Korfball”
Currently, people involved in Korfball in England regularly have to answer the question “What is
Korfball?”. We want to get to the situation whereby everyone in England knows what Korfball is, so that
no one has to wonder how to answer that question; the question will become obsolete.
Alongside this, we want to see huge increases in the number of people involved in Korfball, not just
players, but spectators, coaches, referees, administrators etc. Increasing the number of players without
increasing the other people involved in Korfball will soon lead to an unsustainable position. Our
ambition is to achieve a SUSTAINABLE increase in people involved in Korfball.
VALUES:
To better understand our route to achieving the vision, we have defined the five main values we feel
describe Korfball in this country.
- Pride (pride in what you do and how you do it)
- Inclusive community sport (open to everyone without prejudice)
- Professionalism (all involved in England Korfball working to the highest levels of professionalism)
- Integrity (maintaining the highest standards)
- Teamwork (individuals, clubs, areas, NGB working together as one team)
- Passionate participants (driving Korfball forward with passion)
Everything we do to achieve our vision will be bound by these values.
PATHWAYS TO THE VISION
Six pathways have been identified, leading us to the achievement of the vision.
- Recruitment of new participants (playing and non-playing)
- Retention of existing participants (playing and non-playing)
- Sustainable geographic spread to ensure a truly National sport
- International Excellence (enabling members to reach their individual potential)
- Elite Players
- Elite Coaches
- Elite Managers
- Elite Officials
- Elite Referees
- Development of strategic partnerships
- Kit suppliers
- Sponsors
- UKCC
- Sport England
- Development of a structure to cover
- Coaching Framework (increasing the number and quality of coaches)
- Refereeing Framework (increasing the number and quality of referees.
- Player Pathways (from social player to elite players and everyone in-between)
Achievement of the vision will require many people to work on these different pathways. Our aim is
to encourage people to work with us on the pathway(s) that most interest(s) them, so that drive and
motivation can be more easily maintained.
PRIORITY TARGETS
Targets from within the pathways have been chosen and prioritised so that work can start on concrete
actions, and progress can be seen and measured.
- Coaching Framework (from Pathway 6)
- Communication of Information (vital for all 6 pathways)
- What Executive Committee role covers
- How to get referees qualified
- How to develop coaches through coaching courses etc
- How and what administration clubs and areas need to do annually
- Establishment of an England Korfball Communications Officer
- End of Season Playoff Finals and KorfBALL to be turned into showcase events (Pathways 1-5)
- International Development (Pathways 2, 4, 5 and 6)
- Kit deal

NEXT STEPS
All the Priority Targets will be defined in more detail, and have objectives and actions associated with
them. These, and progress against the Targets, will be continually communicated. This has already been
started with the Coaching Framework, and an announcement regarding this should be available shortly.
